Erosion and sediment control

wp585bf600_05_06Sediment is by volume the most significant contaminant of the world’s waters.  Rural land uses contribute ongoing sediment runoff.  Urban development and redevelopment, as well as forestry, quarrying, landfills, cleanfills and mining can generate essentially unlimited volumes of sediment from uncontrolled runoff, despite their short term operation.

An ever-growing number of jurisdictions are creating erosion and sediment control guidelines tailored to their own local soils, climates and development pressures.

In tandem with increased use of enforcement tools, many of them are providing training to help consultants and contractors working in the heavy construction sector to comply with the new guidelines.

Over our 15 years experience with providing erosion and sediment control training in many different jurisdictions, we have developed a series of polished, practicable and relevant training workshops for consultants and contractors, as well as the policy and regulatory staff of the agencies working with them.

We have also developed a participatory process for working with regulators and industry alike.  This forms the basis for developing erosion and sediment control guidelines that are simple to follow and produce great environmental outcomes for regulators and communities

These outcomes also create great business opportunities for the companies that embrace improved environmental performance standards.

We can help you with:

  • preparation of erosion and sediment control guidelines
  • collaborative engagement of regulators, industry and community interests
  • preparation and delivery of training workshops for consultants, contractors, and policy and regulatory staff
  • sediment and erosion control (‘dirt’) training)
  • supporting ongoing professional development  setting up systems for ongoing industry engagement
  • fostering of collaborative research into local issues and the effectiveness of erosion and sediment guidelines
